Tyranny? Democracy?

Choices are hard.

Tyranny? Democracy?

The stark choice in the 2024 U.S. Election could not be easier and the impact upon America and the rest of the world could not be more profound.

Look, I recognize that the United States might not be ready for a highly-qualified, experienced woman as President (although nearly 3 million more voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, thankfully, the Electoral College -America’s important institution established in order to preserve slavery (or, as known in Florida, intensive job apprenticeship programs for people of color effectively suppressed the votes and will of 65,844,954 people with Trump’s 62,979,879 votes, and elevated the failed reality show host -tax evading -money laundering -fraud-committing (but at that point in time not convicted yet!) rapist and racist to the Presidency.

And before Trump was sworn into office, he was already subverting the sanctions on Russia and Russian oligarchs due to Putin’s illegal annexing of Crimea through liar and insurrectionist Michael Flynn.

The criminal Trump later pardoned Flynn for the crimes of obstruction, lying to Congress, and witness intimidation. (And don’t ask me how a criminal can pardon another criminal -lawyer friends is that how the “Equal Protection Clause” works?)

A Brief Resume Timeline

Early 1990’s

VP Kamala Harris was hired as a deputy DA in the Alameda County, California District Attorney’s office. She specialized in prosecuting child sexual assault cases.

The Trump Organization had $3.4 Billion of debt, the casino -Trump Taj Mahal was failing miserably, and Trump was cheating on his then wife Ivana Trump (now notably buried at his golf course, probably with top secret documents). Also, allegations of Trump’s sexual assaults involving several women gained some attention.

Timeline 2004

In 2004, VP Kamala Harris was elected District Attorney of San Francisco.

The same year “The Apprentice” debuted. The Trump Organization was involved in real estate development. And Trump co-owned the Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA pageants.

Timeline 2010

In 2010 VP Harris was elected Attorney General for the State of California, where she oversaw the largest state justice department in the country. She took on those who were preying on the American people, winning a $20 billion settlement for Californians whose homes had been foreclosed on and a $1.1 billion settlement for students and veterans who were taken advantage of by a for-profit education company. She also defended the Affordable Care Act in court and enforced environmental laws. (https://oag.ca.gov/news/press-releases/attorney-general-kamala-d-harris-secures-18-billion-california-commitment)

In 2010 Trump was focused on managing his hotels, golf courses, and real estate projects, started another “reality” show called “Celebrity Apprentice”. Concerns arose about the legitimacy of Trump University, which later ended with lawsuits, allegations of fraud, and a $25 million dollar settlement.

Timeline 2017

In 2017 VP Harris was sworn into the United States Senate. Here she is questioning two Supreme Court nominees while she served on the Judiciary Committee.

In 2017, Trump, prior to his felony convictions, although losing the election by almost 3 million votes was elevated to the Presidency by one of the traditional institutions of systemic racism in America, the Electoral College.

The Speeches

While simply providing a great speech doesn’t foretell a great leader, speeches and semantics can be a powerful tool. Expressing a powerful vision can bring people together over a common purpose. Or speeches can be used to fan the flames of racism, misogyny, and give license to extremism, hate, and violence.

As a simple test, can you match the speech with the candidate?

Speech A: “Well I would do that. And we’re sitting down. You know I was somebody. We had Senator Marco Rubio, and my daughter Ivanka was so impactful on that issue. It’s a very important issue. But I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I’m talking about, that because—look, child care is child care. It’s—couldn’t, you know, it’s something you have to have it—in this country you have to have it. But when you talk about those numbers compared to the kind of numbers that I’m talking about by taxing foreign nations at levels that they’re not used to—but they’ll get used to it very quickly—and it’s not going to stop them from doing business with us, but they’ll have a very substantial tax when they send product into our country. Those numbers are so much bigger than any numbers that we’re talking about, including child care, that it’s going to take care. We’re going to have—I look forward to having no deficits within a fairly short period of time, coupled with the reductions that I told you about on waste and fraud and all of the other things that are going on in our country, because I have to stay with child care. I want to stay with child care, but those numbers are small relative to the kind of economic numbers that I’m talking about, including growth, but growth also headed up by what the plan is that I just told you about. We’re going to be taking in trillions of dollars, and as much as child care is talked about as being expensive, it’s, relatively speaking, not very expensive compared to the kind of numbers we’ll be taking in. We’re going to make this into an incredible country that can afford to take care of its people, and then we’ll worry about the rest of the world. Let’s help other people, but we’re going to take care of our country first. This is about America first. It’s about Make America Great Again, we have to do it because right now we’re a failing nation, so we’ll take care of it.”

Speech B: “It’s about us. People of all ages and colors and creeds who are, yes, taking to the streets, and also persuading our family members, rallying our friends, organizing our neighbors, and getting out the vote. And we’ve shown that, when we vote, we expand access to health care, expand access to the ballot box, and ensure that more working families can make a decent living. I’m inspired by a new generation of leadership. You are pushing us to realize the ideals of our nation, pushing us to live the values we share: decency and fairness, justice and love. You are the patriots who remind us that to love our country is to fight for the ideals of our country. In this election, we have a chance to change the course of history. We’re all in this fight. What an awesome responsibility. What an awesome privilege. So, let’s fight with conviction. Let’s fight with hope. Let’s fight with confidence in ourselves, and a commitment to each other. To the America we know is possible. The America, we love. Years from now, this moment will have passed. And our children and our grandchildren will look in our eyes and ask us: Where were you when the stakes were so high? They will ask us, what was it like? And we will tell them. We will tell them, not just how we felt. We will tell them what we did. Thank you. God bless you. And God bless the United States of America.”

The Supreme (-ly corrupted) Court Justices

In January, 2025, when, in the best case scenario an elected President is sworn into office and four of the nine current SCOTUS justices will be 70 years old or older. This includes “Clearence” Thomas, the luxurious gifts for rulings and opinions magnet, and Sam “let’s throw out settled law and use an opinion from the Witch trials” Alito. The next President will likely be nominating up to four justices (or more, should there be a decision to remove unethically corrupt justices who have betrayed their oath). Any aspiration of justice in the United States will be finished, should the White House be occupied by the morally bankrupt and convicted felon. The very thought of Aileen Cannon and Matthew Kacsmaryk elevated to SCOTUS is so repellant I can barely continue to write, and yet, against all odds, I persist.

We are at an inflection point.

We can choose a dystopian future in which a corrupt, incompetent, and now convicted felon can implement his Project 2025/Agenda 47/Mein Kampf -or whatever he and his co-conspirators and cultists want to call their plans to abandon democracy.

Or we can elect an experienced, highly-qualified woman to lead us forward on a path toward justice, democracy, and equality.

The Decision

The decision is painstakingly easy for anyone who is capable of thinking rationally with a measurable IQ. This election will at least allow us to count how many self-enriching billionaires, racists, toxic misogynists, and “factose” intolerant voters there are in the United States and if there is enough hate in the swing states to yield another Electoral College victory for racism in America by disenfranchising the will of the majority. And if that happens, Trump is not lying (there’s a first time for everything) when he says this is the last time you’ll have to vote.
