A Clear and Present Danger

An Open Letter to the GOP

Senate Majority Leader John Thune
House Speaker Mike Johnson

Re: (18 U.S.C. § 4), Misprision of a felony(ies)

Sirs,

As you are aware the President and his Administration are directing an array of actions that are destroying the United States, vital institutions, and our global reputation.

The breach of previously secure Federal computing infrastructure has exposed millions of U.S. citizens’ sensitive financial information by private individuals who are ignoring the stringent security standards outlined by Federal Tax Information for which there are both criminal penalties:

· 26 U.S.C. § 7213 (Unauthorized Disclosure of Tax Information)

· 26 U.S.C. § 7213A (Unauthorized Inspection of FTI)

And civil penalties:

· 26 U.S.C. § 7431 (Civil Damages for Unauthorized Disclosure)

The USAID program, now effectively terminated by Trump and a private citizen makes America less safe and secure. USAID was created to strengthen worldwide stability, reduce the attributes that lead to extremism and extremist recruiting, and provide disaster response and crisis management, globally. The foothold established by USAID helped to expand trade and private market and supply chain development and enhanced U.S. diplomacy. The void will be filled by major U.S. adversaries therefore weakening our reputation as a stable, reliable partner and ally.
Furthermore, the breach of USAID systems by private individuals potentially exposes foreign policy, security assessments, threat data, counterintelligence information, and sensitive data about USAID partners throughout the world.

The unilateral tariffs directed at Mexico, Canada, and China will create economic harm for your constituents and the country. In manufacturing the tariffs will disrupt integrated automotive industry supply chains, raise consumer prices for electronic goods, and increase construction costs. The actions will cause construction projects to be delayed or terminated with an associated loss of jobs in the manufacturing and construction sectors.

The United States along with our allies must adhere to international law respecting the territorial integrity of all nations. Failing to do so aligns us with murderous dictators throughout tragic history to Putin’s annexation of Crimea and attack on the people of Ukraine. Threatening the territorial integrity of Mexico, Panama, and Greenland by this administration is a complete rejection of the rule of international law.

The termination of DOJ and FBI Personnel who were acting in accordance with their oath to uphold law and justice is vindictive and immoral.

Aside from the significant risk of future global conflict inherent in embracing ill-advised isolationist and nationalistic U.S. Foreign Policy, climate change, and the related climate catastrophe remains the most significant threat to humanity. Instead of taking a leadership role to work cooperatively with allies and adversarial nations, the withdrawal from global agreements, the evisceration of environmental regulation and enforcement (in exchange for political “donations”), and redoubling Big Oil, Coal, and extraction industry activity is a crime against this and future generations of Americans.

And the continuing efforts of this Administration to blame diversity for every catastrophic failure of government is blatantly racist. Diversity has been the backbone of American prosperity and growth throughout our history.

While we may share opposing views on many or all issues impacting the United States if we cannot fundamentally agree on an inviolable foundation of democracy, justice, and equality then there is no conversation.

The Republican Party must embrace its responsibility to all constituents, the Constitution, and the rule of law and begin Impeachment, invoking the 25th Amendment, or both.

Continuing to ignore your responsibility to the United States through absolute fealty to an unhinged criminal President is turning the Republican Party into a criminal organization acting as co-conspirators and/or as accessories after the fact.

There is a clear and present danger to America. What will you do?
